our floor plans and the Changes to the ncc

2023-08-01

You may have noticed that our standard floor plans are all currently being remodeled to ensure they all comply with the changes to the National Construction Code (NCC) coming into effect on 1st October 2023.

The NCC is the Australia's main technical design and construction provisions for buildings and the changes that will impact residential buildings are  Livable Housing, Energy Efficiency, Wind Loads for Housing and Bushfire protection, waterproofing and falls to floor wastes + more.

Whilst the industry is wading through all the new requirements for residential buildings, we are making the necessary changes to our designs so stay tuned, we will have our new & improved Floorplans page up and running again as soon as possible.

Renovating your Kitchen can be a very WISE move...

2020-04-15

The Kitchen is the hub of the home, and as a mother, I feel it is the most important room of the home, so if your kitchen is looking tired and a little worse for wear, or you're planning to sell in the near future, a kitchen renovation might be a very smart move.

There are two simple rules to follow when renovating your kitchen.

Don't half do it & Don't do it on the cheap.

A kitchen is such an essential area – it needs to be functional, comfortable & attractive, and everyone appreciates quality. The kitchens today are about so much more than just cooking, they’re multi-functional spaces for family time, entertaining, working, eating and more. When all is said & done, a well-thought-through design with lots of clever inclusions will give you a pleasurable space to live in that will perfectly suit your family & lifestyle.
You’ll want a functional layout and easy-to-clean materials that will save you time every day. Imagine how you will use the space and how you’ll spend time there with friends and family. If there is direct access to an outdoor area, this will immediately create an illusion of more space. Also, don’t forget to keep the area light, bright and welcoming, dark color schemes will shrink an already small space and make it feel less inviting.
When designing your new kitchen, make sure to incorporate plenty of user-friendly storage so it’s easy to keep your benchtops clear of small appliances and clutter & if you are lucky enough to have the space, incorporate a walk-in pantry or even a butler’s pantry. Either will create extra space for storage and a butlers pantry will also create a secondary area to prepare food as well as a place to hide away mess from your dinner guests.
Here are a few key points for creating a functional & practical kitchen layout:
1. Remember that little inclusions can make a big difference. If you can make your benchtop 100 mm deeper than a standard 600 mm depth, you’ll gain oodles more prep space.
2. Determine the island's function. When it comes to kitchen islands, form follows function. If you want to cook and eat on kitchen islands, plan enough space so the cooktop is safely separated from the dining area.
3. Shorten travel distances between cooking and prep zones as much as possible.
4. Allow sequential activities to happen side by side.
5. Allow for multi-tasking, such as keeping an eye on the stove while you’re loading the dishwasher or helping the children with their homework whilst prepping your meal.
6. Store what you need close to the activity, such as pots and pans near the stove, and kettle near the sink.
7. Include features that make cooking, cleaning & entertaining easy, such as a pull-out bin or compost bin next to where you chop vegetables.
8. Allow enough space for people to work in the kitchen without having to squeeze past each other.
9. Find a focal point. Snazzy tiles, fancy floors, large rangehoods, bright kitchen cabinets, or busy benchtop patterns give the eye too much to look at. Pick one focal point in your kitchen design and complement that area with a few other quieter, eye-catching details.

What a difference a verandah addition can make to your home....

2019-03-30

The verandah has been a standard feature in Aussie homes since the colonial days and a verandah makes just as much sense today and is a great way to extend your outdoor living and entertaining space.

This home makeover not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of this typical queenslander home but added an extensive entertaining area that our clients can enjoy year-round without worrying about the weather

Whatever your reasons for wanting a verandah, whether it be a new verandah or a rebuild of an existing one, we can make it happen!

Comfort Homes are the timber deck & verandah specialists in Bundaberg so if you're looking for a quality verandah at an affordable price call us today on 0407116977 for a free custom design & quote.

Queenslanders Like our Homes.

2017-01-15

Lately we have noticed more visitors to the area looking to build their holiday or retirement home on our beautiful Central Queensland Coast and it's surrounding areas.  They have heard that we are quality, custom home builders so our name is getting out there.

Our region is a fantastic place to live and visit for people of all ages and who like to live in a great coastal area, there's a lot going for the Bundaberg region and areas close by.  With our sheltered, golden beaches this is perfect for swimming, surfing, snorkeling, boating, fishing or just sitting back, relaxing and living life like it's meant to be.  An area with close & easy access to shops, parks, cafes, schools and major shopping, the region is an affordable, highly popular area.

If you have friends or family looking to build in Bundaberg or it's surrounding areas, tell them about Comfort Homes and we will look after them.
